Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. – Psalm 1:1-2

Blessed is the man who 1) surrounds himself with the right people, and 2) immerses himself in the word of God.

Surround yourself with the right people. You become like the people you are around most. With whom do you spend most of your time? Are they friends who draw you closer to the Cross? Or are they people who tend to push you away?

Immerse yourself in the word of God. To delight in the law of the Lord means getting to the point where reading God’s word is the best part of your day. Do you look forward to reading Scripture every day? Is it a chore? Or is it a blessing? If reading the Bible is not truly a delight, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with desire for the Word! He will fill you with desire for things you could never desire on your own.

Do you want to be blessed in 2018? When you attribute a proper value to 1) relationships and 2) God’s word, you will be blessed like never before!

Prayer:

Father, adjust my values! Help me to focus on spending time with the right people. Help me to focus on spending time in Your word! I know that as I do, I will be abundantly blessed.
