Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” – Lk 18:22

The rich young ruler’s real god was money; not Jesus! Jesus asked him to give up the one thing he saw as more important than God. Jesus asked him to give up the one thing that was interfering with his relationship with Jesus! But he simply could not do it.

Riches were no longer just part of the young ruler’s inventory; they had become his identity. “Rich” was no longer what he had; it was who he was! What are you letting define you that is not God?

You have a choice: will you live for God, or will you live for money? What will your testimony be? Will you be one who was unable to give up everything to follow God? Or will you be one who put his hand to the plow, and never looked back?

Prayer:

Father, I will have no other gods besides You. You are Lord over my life! I want to live for You – no one, and nothing else – in Jesus’ name!
