Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, “Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?” – Judges 1:1

When Joshua died, God didn’t stop speaking. The children of Israel still expected to hear from God, even though their designated spokesman had moved on to life after death. We know they expected to hear from God because they asked Him questions!

Asking questions is one of the best ways we can open ourselves up to hear from heaven. Too often, we pray in statements. We know what we want, and we simply ask God to make it happen. The built-in assumption is that what we want is best.

But what God wants is better! Ask God questions, and make room to listen. “Where do you want me to go today? What do you want me to do? Who do you want me to talk to?” When we call, He will answer. This is the promise God has made to us:

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. – Ps 91:15

Prayer:

Father, help me to ask questions. I know that when I call upon You, You will answer. I’m going to make time in my daily schedule to stop and listen to You!
