Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you…” (Lk 22:32).

Satan asked for Peter, just as he had asked for Job. But whereas Job had no mediator to intercede for him, Peter did! Jesus stood in the gap and prayed for Peter so that Satan would not have access to him. Under the New Covenant, He does the same for every believer!

Jesus is our Mediator. Whenever Satan asks for us, Jesus stands in between Satan’s request and God’s ears. He holds up His hand, and refuses the enemy access to us as we stand our ground in faith.

Do not fear the enemy. He is already defeated. What’s more, Jesus has given us complete authority over Him:

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. – Lk 10:19

Prayer:

Father, thank You for giving me complete authority over Satan. When I feel weak, remind me of the authority and power You have given me in the name of Jesus! Help me to use that authority to expand Your kingdom.
