Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” – Lk 22:57

Denial is inevitable. Peter denied Jesus; and unfortunately, sooner or later, so will each and every single one of us. Despite our best efforts to stay strong and keep our faith, our flesh will cause us to turn away from Jesus when we have an opportunity to take up our cross and follow Him.

Peter denied Jesus; but Jesus never denied Peter. After Jesus was raised from the dead, He sought Peter out (see Jn 21). But He didn’t get mad at Peter for making the wrong choice. Jesus didn’t lecture Peter and tell him to “do better,” “have more faith,” or “pray harder.” Jesus forgave Peter, and restored him. He promised Peter that despite his mistakes, he still had God’s trust. And just as Jesus never turned His back on Peter, He will never turn His back on you!

For every denial, there is restoration. Call out to Jesus, and He will answer you. There is always forgiveness at the foot of the Cross.

Prayer:

Father, I have failed and fallen short more times than I can count. But I know You are faithful to forgive. Give me the strength to come back into Your arms. I know You always forgive me because of the cross of Jesus Christ!
