Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation. – 1 Sam 3:1

Samuel ministered before Eli; but he ministered to the Lord. Eli was far from perfect; but he still taught Samuel how to hear from God. Eli’s household was rebellious; but God still used Eli to train and raise up the great prophet Samuel! Samuel would become one of the greatest prophets the world had ever seen: not because his teacher had a spotless resume, but because he chose to serve and honor God even thought his teacher was imperfect!

There is no such thing as a perfect mentor. Don’t obsess over finding the perfect person to serve or to learn from. Ask God, “Whom do you want me to serve? Whom do you want me to learn from?” And when He answers, dive right in and start serving. God will see your service – no matter how imperfect the recipient – as worship and as service to Him! He will use your service as a training ground, and launch you into your destiny from that place.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the men and women You have called me to serve! I know they are not perfect, and neither am I; but that doesn’t mean You won’t profoundly impact the lives of other people through us!
