Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then you shall go on forward from there and come to the terebinth tree of Tabor. There three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine. – 1 Samuel 10:3

Part I: Specific Prophecy

This is true prophecy. Samuel didn’t speak in vague half-truths! He didn’t tell Saul, “I feel like you will go somewhere significant and meet someone important.” He spoke with authority about specific details; and it all played out exactly as he said it would.

God cares about the smallest, most intricate details in your life. He wants to see your secret dreams come to pass even more than you do! He will speak to you about things to come – ahead of time – so you know you are on the right track. Do you believe it?

Part II: Specific Prayer

Our God is a God of specifics. He loves details. If He is willing to give us specific prophecy, shouldn’t we give Him specific prayer? If He is willing to give us the desire of our hearts (Ps 37:4), shouldn’t we tell Him exactly what those desires are?

When young women ask me to pray for a future husband, do you know what I ask for? Specifics! What color hair is your future husband going to have? How tall will he be? What color eyes will he have? What specifics has God shown you in times of prayer that you can stand on and pray for?

When someone asks me to pray for a job, do you know what I ask for? Specifics! What do you want to do? How much do you want to make? Where do you want your office to be? How many hours a week is your ideal schedule? What specifics has God shown you in times of prayer that you can stand on and pray for?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for being so specific! I want to make room to hear specifics from You in times of prayer. I want to have the attention to detail required to communicate specifics in prayer! Give me the confidence that You care about the details even more than I do, in Jesus’ name.
