Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.” – Jn 9:3

The disciples saw a blind man. They immediately assumed his blindness was the result of sin. So they asked Jesus, Who did something wrong? But Jesus reminded them that just because someone is sick, doesn’t mean they did something wrong.

Sickness is not a death sentence. It does not mean God is mad at you. Sickness happens because we live in a fallen world. But here is all you need to know: every sickness is an opportunity for God to prove His character. It is an invitation for you to see His goodness first-hand. It is an opportunity for the world to know – through your testimony – that God is the Healer!

Do you remember when Lazarus died? People were upset: angry at God! How could He let this happen! But Jesus reminded them that sickness – and even apparent death – is nothing more than an opportunity for God to heal:

When Jesus heard [about Lazarus], He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” – Jn 11:4

Are you sick? Do you know someone who is ill: even terminally? Contend for their healing by confidently standing on the word of God. This sickness is not unto death; it is, in fact, an opportunity for God to heal.

Prayer:

Father, change my perception of sickness. I know that just because I am going through something, does not mean I did something wrong. I believe You will use this as a supernatural opportunity to heal! And I thank You for it, in Jesus’ name.
