Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And David said to Saul: “Why do you listen to the words of men who say, ‘Indeed David seeks your harm’?” – 1 Sam 24:9

Here we learn two things about Saul:

1) Saul’s fear was irrational. He had an irrational fear that David wanted to displace him as king, even though David had no such intention. He had an irrational suspicion that David wanted to kill him, even though David would never even lay a hand on him!

2) Saul let other people reinforce his fear. He listened to other men who said David wanted to do him harm, even though David had no such intention!

The takeaway: If you struggle with irrational fear, surround yourself with friends who will calm your fears, instead of making them worse! First, realize that your fears are irrational. 99% of the things we fear never come true. Then, surround yourself with wise friends who will remind you that you have nothing to fear!

Prayer:

Father, I give my irrational fears to You. I declare none of them will come to pass over my life. Thank You for protecting me, in Jesus’ name! Surround me with good friends who will remind me just how loved I really am.
