Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. – Jn 15:12-13

What does it mean to love like Jesus? Jesus laid down His life for us. He willingly chose death so that we could have life. He willingly chose shame so that we could enjoy glory. In one infinite moment, He endured an eternity of separation from God on the Cross, so that you and I could be with God for all eternity!

Loving like Jesus means laying your life down for your friends. Loving like Jesus means putting other people’s best interests ahead of your own. Loving like Jesus means giving up your life for someone else’s good, even if they don’t love you back!

Loving like Jesus might seem impossible; but the Holy Spirit filled you to do the impossible! Are you ready to love like Jesus? Ask the Holy Spirit for help. The same Holy Spirit who empowered Jesus to love us, empowers us to love others!

But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” – Matt 19:26

Prayer:

Father, help me to love like Jesus. Help me to love other people, even when they don’t love me back. Strengthen me to lay down my life for others, even when it means my own harm! Jesus did it for me; and now I want to do it for others, in Jesus’ name!
