Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But how can a man be righteous before God? – Job 9:2

To be righteous means to be “morally right or justifiable; virtuous.”[1] Righteousness means right standing with God: the ability to stand before Him with nothing to hide, because you have done nothing wrong.

We need to be righteous if we want to get into Heaven. We must be righteous if we want God to hear our prayers! God is perfect and holy: He does not allow sin in His presence! But none of us is perfect. So what are we supposed to do?

Trust in Jesus. Jesus was righteous for you. He hung on the Cross and took the punishment you deserve, so that you could inherit His righteousness when you believe in Him.  Scripture says that we are righteous, “through faith in Jesus Christ” (Rom 3:22). When you trust in Jesus and confess Him as Lord, you are righteous – perfect before God!

If your reward depends on our own personal righteousness, you will be condemned. But if your reward depends on Jesus’ righteousness, you are worthy of it all: all of God’s love, and all His affection!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for making me righteous by faith. I know my own works don’t make me righteous; but Jesus’ work does! I put my faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of all my sins: past, present and future.
