Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then Jacob said to Joseph: “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a multitude of people, and give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession’”’ – Gen 48:3-4

Jacob was pulled from the Promised Land; but he never forgot the promise.

Jacob was in Egypt! He had left Canaan – the Promised Land – because of famine. But he still did not abandon the promise God had given him. He remembered his encounter with God. He remembered God promised him the land of Canaan. Jacob knew that even though it didn’t seem possible, God would give the land to his descendants.

What has God told you? What do you remember from your encounters with Him? What has He promised you? Don’t allow life’s circumstances to discourage you. It might seem like you’re nowhere close to the promised land; but God’s promise still stands! Jacob was taken from the Promised Land because of a drought; but he would never abandon the promise. Neither should you!

Prayer:

Father, remind me of Your promises over my life! Thank You for Your faithfulness. I know that if You said it, it will be done! Help me never to forget Your promises, in Jesus’ name.
