Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.– Ps 51:1-2

David messed up! But David did not simply sin and then pretend nothing had happened. He knew he had much to apologize for and repent of. He cried out to God for forgiveness, and guess what? God met him where he was. No matter what you have done, God will do exactly the same for you!

David was a man after God’s own heart; but even David made mistakes. The strength of David’s legacy lies not in his perfection, but in his honesty with God. Get honest with God! Confess your need, and He will meet it. He will bless you with, “.exceedingly abundantly above all that [you] ask or think” (Eph 3:20).

Prayer:

Father, I am not perfect! But I want to be honest. Encourage me to be honest with You! Help me to confess my need for help, knowing that You will meet me exactly where I am in Jesus’ name!
