Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Shall evil be repaid for good? For they have dug a pit for my life. Remember that I stood before You to speak good for them, to turn away Your wrath from them. – Jer 18:20

Jeremiah constantly prayed for the people of Israel. He pleaded with God to spare their lives. He “spoke good for them” so God’s wrath would be turned away. And do you think the people he prayed for were grateful?

Absolutely not! Jeremiah prayed for Israel; and in response, they tried to kill him. They should have been grateful! But instead they were livid.

Don’t be offended when people fail to reciprocate your love. Keep praying, even if they’re ungrateful. Keep praying, even if they’re hateful! Keep praying: not because they deserve love, but because Jesus died for them to have it.

In return for my love they are my accusers, but I give myself to prayer. – Ps 109:4

Prayer:

Father, give me grace to face people who have hurt me. I prayed for them, and they didn’t care. I loved them, and they threw it back in my face! Even if they’re ungrateful, I will love them through it, in Jesus’ name!
