Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. – 1 Tim 1:5-7

When did church get so complicated? When did religion get so complex? The purpose of good doctrine – the gospel of Jesus Christ – is love. The gospel enables us to “…love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith” (v 5).

Faith should be all about loving Jesus: nothing more, and nothing less! Church should be all about loving Jesus: nothing more, and nothing less! Religion should be all about loving Jesus: nothing more, and nothing less! Anything else is “idle talk” (v 6).

Prayer:

Father, take me back to my first love. Help me to love Your Son Jesus Christ with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, and all my strength. I receive His love, and I give Him all my affection, in Jesus’ name!
