Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. – Ps 86:5
What is God like? Are you wondering what you are going to find when you turn to God? Are you wondering how God is going to respond when you come back to Him?
He is good! He is ready to forgive! He is abundant in mercy to “all those who call upon Him!” That means you don’t have to be perfect to receive the forgiveness of God; you simply have to call on Him, for “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Rom 10:13).
Come back to God. He has already separated you from your sin, as far as the east is from the west (Ps 103:12). His goodness, forgiveness, mercy, and love, are waiting for you at the foot of the Cross. All you have to do is receive Him, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You are good! Thank You that You are ready to forgive. Thank You for Your abundant mercy toward every man and every woman who calls upon You. I’m calling upon You now, in Jesus’ name. I know I don’t deserve forgiveness, but Jesus died for me to have it; so I receive it, in Jesus’ name!
