Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
…not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit… – Titus 3:5

How were you saved? Did you earn it; or was it given to you as a gift? Did you deserve it; or did God give it to you anyway, in spite of your flaws?

Salvation is a gift. Salvation does not come “by works of righteousness.” You are not saved because of your goodness; you are saved because of God’s goodness! It was His mercy that saved you. You were far from clean; but God has washed, regenerated, and renewed you by His Holy Spirit.

Thank God for the gift of salvation! We didn’t deserve it; but He gave it to us all the same.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. – Eph 2:8-9

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the gift of salvation! You are so good to me. Thank You for Your mercy; and thank You for washing, regenerating, and renewing me by Your Holy Spirit, in Jesus name!
