Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“’And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” – Mk 12:30-31

If you want to give love to others, you have to receive love from God first. Jesus communicated and demonstrated the importance of loving other people. He poured His life out as a love offering to the world. But before He could love us, He had to know the love of the Father.

If you want to love people, you have to love God first. If you try to love others before you cultivate a relationship with God, you will end up tired and burnt out; but if you focus first on loving God, loving others will become natural. When you genuinely love God, you can’t help but love other people!

Prayer:

Father, help me to love You with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, and all my strength. I want to love other people well, and I know a real relationship with You is a prerequisite!
