Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. – Mk 13:7

We live in uncertain times. We hear news of mass shootings and man-made atrocities almost every day. We wake up to headlines about earthquakes and natural disasters all the time. It seems like the world is falling apart! So what should our response be?

Do not be troubled. To be “troubled” is the Greek throeo (Strong’s #2360), which means to be frightened or alarmed. If we are frightened, it means we are not praying fearless prayers. This world needs fearless prayers! So instead of shrinking back and wondering, “How did it get this bad,” we should know that “such things must happen” (v 7) and use every piece of bad news as an opportunity to pray for God’s will to come to pass!

Do not be troubled. Such things must happen. Don’t get distracted by the enemy’s plans; get excited for the Lord’s coming.

Prayer:

Father, help me to never be troubled. We live in a fallen world, and bad things happen. But the solution to evil is not man-made; it is God-ordained. Help me to use every opportunity I can to pray!
