Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. – Lk 8:24

The disciples were in the middle of a violent, dangerous storm! As water filled the boat, they ran to Jesus to make sure He knew they were in trouble. Did He even care they were about to die?!

The disciples reaction was more extreme than their faith. Extreme reactions call us to question whether God cares; but extreme faith allows us to confidently declare that God is good. When you come up against a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, what is your response: extreme reaction, or extreme faith?

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. – Mk 11:23

Prayer:

Father, fill me with extreme faith! I know I have the same authority as Jesus Himself. I can rebuke wind and wave in His name! Thank You for trusting me to carry out Your will, in Jesus’ name.
