Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. – Lk 13:11

Different sicknesses require different responses. Some sickness is medical; but Scripture says that some sickness is caused by a spirit of infirmity. First, Jesus discerned that the cause of this woman’s sickness was spiritual, not physical. Second, He quickly dealt with it:

But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. – Lk 13:12-13

Notice Jesus didn’t pray for this woman. He didn’t ask God to heal her. He simply recognized she was dealing with a spirit of infirmity, told her she was loosed, and laid His hands on her. She was delivered; and all Jesus had to do was let her know she was free!

Are you sick? Ask for discernment from the Holy Spirit: is the sickness spiritual, or physical? If it’s spiritual, you need deliverance, and not a doctor. Doctors don’t cast out spirits; but the name of Jesus does.

Prayer:

Father, give me discernment to deal with sickness. I recognize that sometimes I just need to tell infirmity to leave in the name of Jesus. Give me the courage to command healing and deliverance, in Jesus’ name!
