Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

We see two notable elements of the enemy’s strategy as Assyria approaches Jerusalem:

1) The enemy told God’s people they didn’t pray enough.

“But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the Lord our God,’ is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and said to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar’?” – Is 36:7

The Assyrians tried to convince God’s people they had no right to trust in God, because they didn’t worship Him enough! The enemy will always try and get you to trust in your condition instead of your position. Don’t fall for it. You are a child of God – no matter how much you pray, and how often you worship. He will protect you because He is your Father, not because you earned His protection!

2) The enemy tried to get God’s people to settle.

…until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards. – Is 36:17

The enemy will always tempt you with counterfeit happiness. He didn’t offer God’s people the right to stay in their own land; he offered them a counterfeit – a land that looked and felt like their own land. But a counterfeit is never the same as the real thing! Hold out for God’s promise. He is faithful to deliver everything He has spoken, in Jesus’ name!

Trust God, and never settle! Don’t let Satan steal the promises you get to stand on as a child of God.

Prayer:

Father, protect me from the lies of the enemy! I know You love me, no matter how much I pray. I know I don’t have to settle for partial fulfillment of Your promise; so help me to hold out for the whole thing!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. – Ps 63:2

There is power in corporate worship. Yes, I believe you can encounter God anywhere. You can have life-changing moments in individual worship. However, there is something special that happens when you come together with other believers and worship God with your whole heart.

The wine is in the cluster. Jesus told His disciples, “…where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matt 18:20). It wasn’t until the disciples gathered in the upper room that the Holy Spirit fell. When you gather for worship in your local church, Jesus will make Himself known!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for strength in numbers. I pray You would ground me in Christian community. Remind me of the importance of going to church, and worshipping with other people who call on the name of Jesus!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Does the plowman keep plowing all day to sow? Does he keep turning his soil and breaking the clods? When he has leveled its surface, does he not sow the black cummin and scatter the cummin, plant the wheat in rows, the barley in the appointed place, and the spelt in its place? – Is 28:24-25

If you want a new kind of harvest, you have to sow a new kind of seed. Every type of seed requires a different type of care. The technique used to plant and harvest it will be different. We waste time because we scatter financial seed the same way we scatter seed for healing (or any other type of prayer), and expect the same results!

What type of seed are you sowing? The same old tricks won’t get the job done. Ask for instructions from Heaven: Lord, what kind of seed do you want me to sow, and how should I prepare for harvest? Trust God’s guidance as He leads you into a new season: one in which the impossible becomes possible!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for making me fruitful! Thank You for good seed. Help me to sow it faithfully, knowing that You are the God of the harvest.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. – Gal 3:15

Once a covenant is established, it cannot be changed. If a legal document is signed by two parties, it cannot be changed or annulled unless both parties agree. Nothing can be added to the agreement, and nothing can be taken away. If that is true for a legal agreement between two human beings, how much more for a legal agreement between God and man!

God promises never to leave you or forsake you (Deut 31:6). He promises to separate you from your sin as far as the East is from the West (Ps 103:12). He promises that when you believe in Jesus, all your sins are forgiven and you become a new creation in Christ (2 Cor 5:17)!

His covenant cannot change. His promise still stands: no matter how far gone you think you are. There is no sin so great that it can overshadow the finished work of the Cross. You are redeemed and set free in Jesus’ name!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your permanent covenant. Thank You that I cannot lose my salvation by messing up. I know that as long as I still believe in Jesus, the covenant still stands!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? – Gal 3:5

You don’t have to work for miracles. Jesus already did all the work for miracles 2,000 years ago on the Cross! He died so you could be filled with His Holy Spirit when you believe in Him. That means the same Holy Spirit who worked through Jesus to make the blind see, make the deaf hear, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons, works in you. By design, you are a miracle maker, because the Maker works miracles through you!

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. – Rom 8:11

Miracles happen by faith, and not by works. Miracles happen when you believe God’s word. Miracles happen when, despite the bad report, you continue to trust God for complete healing in your body! Miracles happen when, despite death knocking at your door, you continue to believe God will satisfy you with long life (Ps 91:16)!  If you want to see miracles, you have to have faith!

Prayer:

Father, give me supernatural faith for miracles! I believe You can do anything. I want to see the lame healed, the lepers cleansed, the blind with restored sight, and the deaf hear! I know You can do anything. Use me as a miracle-maker, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

I will wait for You, O You his Strength; for God is my defense. – Ps 59:9

Trust in the Lord! Then, wait. God’s timing is perfect; yours is not. Don’t try to make it happen on your own. God is your strength and your defense; so refrain from defending yourself, and let Him defend you!

Any time God’s people take matters into their own hands, disaster strikes. When Abraham and Sarah took matters into their own hands, conflict drove Hagar and Ishmael out of the house. When David took matters into his own hands, Uriah the Hittite lost his life and David and Bathsheba lost their son. When the children of Israel took matters into their own hands and went into battle without the Lord’s help, they were slaughtered!

Wait on the Lord. You don’t have to deliver yourself, because He will deliver you!

Prayer:

Father, give me supernatural patience! I know You are good, and I will wait on You for complete deliverance, in Jesus’ name.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father… – Gal 1:3-4

Jesus gave Himself for our sins. He died so you and I could be delivered – once and for all – from sin. He died so you and I could be free from the cares and concerns of this world, and focus wholeheartedly on Heaven!

You don’t have to deliver yourself from sin! Jesus already delivered you. Jesus gave Himself; and that means deliverance and salvation are gifts. The harder you try to “be better,” the worse off you will be. The more you try to “sin less,” the more you will sin! But the moment you accept the finished work of the Cross and rest in everything Jesus accomplished for you, you will be free from the chains of sin forever.

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. – Heb 4:15

Prayer:

Father, thank You that Jesus conquered the grave. Thank You that He made sin powerless in my life! Thank you for defeating the enemy and all his devices, so that I would never have to be subject to them, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. – Is 12:3

This is a prophetic picture of what your life with Jesus should look like! Salvation brings abundant joy. As you draw from the bottomless well of salvation, you will be filled with joy. You will be so full of God’s Holy Spirit that you pour His love out everywhere you go!

Too many Christians don’t have enough joy! Life with Jesus shouldn’t be sad – like you’re missing out on all the fun; it should be full of laughter and love! Draw from the wells of salvation. Remember everything God has done for you. As you do, abundant joy will fill your heart.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for abundant joy! I am so happy to be saved: destined to spend all of eternity with You.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. – Prov 23:7

Whatever you think about, you will become. The inclination of your heart determines the direction of your life. We become the things our heart points to!

So, who do you think about? What do you think about? If you spend all day thinking about something or someone other than God, you will become like the object of your thoughts; but as you think about Jesus and reflect on God’s promises, you will become more like Him!

Prayer:

Father, redeem my thought life in Jesus’ name! I know my thoughts determine my present and my future. Help me to think about You all day long!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. – 2 Cor 12:9

God’s strength is made perfect in your weakness. If you boast in your own strength, you will repel the supernatural; but when you boast in your infirmities, you become a magnet for the power of Christ!

Do you want to see answers to your prayers? Do you want the blind to see, the lame to walk, and demons to be cast out when you pray for people? You need the power of God! The more you boast in your own strength, the less God will work through you; but the moment you admit your weakness and demonstrate absolute reliance on God, He will make you strong!

Prayer:

Father, help me never to rely on my own strength. I want to boast in my weakness, and rely on Your strength! I ask for less of me, and more of You, in Jesus’ name!
