Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed. Then he wrote down the dream, telling the main facts. – Dan 7:1

Daniel wrote down his dreams. The purpose was twofold: 1) to record the information for himself and others to revisit at a later time, and 2) to demonstrate to God that he would be a good steward over dreams God gave him.

Write down your dreams! God will increase the frequency and significance of your dreams if you make a commitment to record them.

“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.” – Hab 2:2

Prayer:

Father, make me faithful to record every dream You give me. I am asking You for more dreams and visions, in Jesus’ name!

Day 333: Trapped By His Own Words

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then these men approached the king, and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is the law of the Medes and Persians that no decree or statute which the king establishes may be changed.” So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.” – Dan 6:15-16

King Darius was trapped by his own words. The leaders convinced him to decree a new law that would sentence Daniel to death. Even though he longed to save Daniel, King Darius was bound by his decree.

The message for us is simple: When being declare-ful, be careful! Be careful what you declare and decree! If you speak death, you will be bound by your own words. Darius spoke death over Daniel without even intending to, and he was forced to keep his word. If, however, you speak life, abundance is inevitable.

Scripture repeatedly reminds us to be careful with our decrees:

But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. – Matt 5:37

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak… – Jas 1:19

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. – Prov 18:21

If you have spoken death over yourself instead of life, don’t panic! Here is the best news of all: all it takes to cancel your past negative decrees is a new, positive decree! The king spoke again to Daniel and said, “Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you” (v 16). The king had spoken death; but he reversed the curse by speaking life over Daniel. He spoke, and the outcome changed; and when you speak, your outcome will change too!

Prayer:

Father, help me to be careful when I’m declare-ful. Help me to declare wise decrees, instead of hasty ones. Remind me to speak life over my circumstances, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But there were also false prophets among the people, …And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. – 2 Pet 2:1-2

Just because someone has followers doesn’t mean (s)he is right. Peter told the early church to be careful of false doctrine. He cautioned that many would follow after false teachers. Any doctrine that does not honor Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords is false! Any teacher who does not teach salvation through faith in Jesus Christ is a false prophet.

All our love, attention, and focus should be on Jesus. Do not be deceived. Ultimately, the responsibility for testing the word you hear rests with you. Test the word you hear from the pulpit on Sundays. How does what you’re hearing measure up to the Word in your Bible?

Prayer:

Father, in Jesus’ name I ask that You would give me wisdom and discernment to determine if the teaching I am hearing is true, or false. Help me to learn and understand Your word, so I can compare everything I hear to the perfect truth: Scripture!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord… – 2 Peter 1:2

Could you use more grace and peace in your life? (Yes. The answer is yes). The more we know God through Jesus, the more God will multiply grace and peace in our lives. Knowledge is the Greek “epignosis,” which is precise and accurate knowledge gained by becoming thoroughly acquainted with the source of truth (Strong’s G1922). We can’t multiply grace and peace by trying harder; only by knowing Jesus more!

As we pursue Jesus and encounter Him, we see Him for who He really is: the Son of God, who came to rescue us from our sins. As we follow after Jesus with our whole hearts, God will add grace and peace to our lives!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for multiplying grace and peace over my life. I want to see and know Jesus for who He really is! Show me, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon. – Dan 3:30

God turns destruction into promotion. The king of Babylon threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego into a fiery furnace. The fire was supposed to destroy them; instead, it served as a launching pad for their destinies by proving just how faithful God is! What the enemy intends for evil, God will use for good!

Jesus meets His people in the midst of every fiery trial to remind us that the enemy is already defeated, and we are victorious. This is why Paul could confidently proclaim that even in a “great trial of affliction, “ he had “abundance of…joy” (2 Cor 8:2). This is why James was bold enough to exhort every believer to “count it all joy when you fall into various trials” (James 1:2). When the enemy turns up the heat, Jesus shows up and shows off!

No matter what you are going through, trust God. There is no fire hot enough to burn the cross. God will turn the enemy’s plans for destruction into promotion.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. – Rom 8:28

Prayer:

Father, thank You for walking through every fiery trial with me. Thank You for turning the enemy’s plans for destruction into divine plans for promotion! No matter what, I trust You!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might tell the king the interpretation. – Daniel 2:16

Daniel didn’t have an interpretation! But he promised the king he would, because his life depended on it. Daniel approached God with urgency. He put a demand on the gifting God had promised over his life. And God responded!

When we put a demand on the anointing, the anointing responds. God had already given Daniel the gift of dream interpretation (Dan 1:17); but Daniel simply needed to exercise it. He asked God for an interpretation, and God gave him one!

What spiritual gifts has God given you? Exercise them like your life depends on it. When you put yourself in situations where you need God to show up, He will!

Prayer:

Father, help me to step out in faith, just like Daniel did. Give me the courage to put a demand on the anointing. I know when I ask You to respond, You will!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes. – Ezek 47:9

The rivers we see in Scripture frequently represent God’s Holy Spirit. Ezekiel is awakening us to the importance of listening to God’s Holy Spirit every single day. As long as you stay in the river, you will live! As long as you remain attentive to God’s Holy Spirit, everything you do will be full of abundant life!

The fruit of a life in partnership with God’s Holy Spirit will be 1) saved souls (“a very great multitude of fish”), 2) supernatural healing, and 3) abundant life, everywhere you go. Are you ready for a life in partnership with God’s Holy Spirit?

Prayer:

Father, I am willing to yield my life to You, fully and completely. Bless the work of my hands. Help me to lean on Your Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance, every day of my life, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart… – 1 Peter 1:22

We purify our souls with Spirit-led, obedient love. Obedient love means loving the people in your life who “deserve” your love and affection the least. Obedient love means loving others when it’s inconvenient. Obedient love means loving others even when it hurts.

Under the Old Covenant, our requirement was to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Lev 19:18). That was already a tall order! But under the New Covenant, Jesus raised the love standard even higher: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you” (Jn 13:34). Jesus loved us infinitely! He gave His life for us! So our job as New Testament Christians is to selflessly sacrifice – to give our lives – to love people we have never even met!

The only way we can love like Jesus is by relying on His Holy Spirit. If we try to love others on our own, we will fail; but when we let God love other people through us, He will succeed.

Prayer:

Father, help me to love like Jesus. I am ill-equipped to love people the way You ask me to. I need Your help. Remind me to rely whole-heartedly on Your Holy Spirit to love other people through me, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So I looked, and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord; and I fell on my face. – Ezek 44:4

When was the last time you fell on your face during worship? Hos long has it been since you were unable to stand because of the weight of the glory of the Lord?

Whenever Ezekiel encountered the glory of God, he fell on his face (see Ezek 1:28, 3:23, 9:8, 11:13, 43:3, 43:4). He was wrecked: overcome to the point where he could no longer stand.

The presence of God should move you! His presence should make you so weak in the knees that you stumble and fall. If you’re not there every time you worship, ask God for more!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for your mighty presence. Thank You for the weight of Your glory! Help me to worship You with everything I have, and all that I am, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. – James 5:14

There is power in corporate prayer. Yes, your private prayers make an impact. However, Jesus promises that when two are more are gathered in His name, He is there (Matt 18:20). He promises that whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matt 18:18). When we pray with other believers, miracles happen! When we bind sickness and loose disease, the work of the enemy is canceled and God’s work is performed!

Are you sick? Surround yourself with good Christian friends. Ask them to pray for you, and let them anoint you with oil. As you do, God will heal you!

And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. – James 5:15

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the power of prayer! I pray You would surround me with strong men and women of God who will pray over me with faith, and anoint me with their prayers!
