Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? – James 4:1

Internal conflict leads to external conflict. If you don’t have inner peace, it will be impossible to have outer peace. Peace within yourself leads to peace among others!

Make time for you. You’re important! As you put a priority on your own emotional and spiritual health, relationships will become easy.

Prayer:

Father, give me time to rest! Remind me to make time for myself. I know if I’m not healthy, I’m no good to anyone; so make me healthy inside and out, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! – James 3:5

The words that come out of your mouth will dictate the quality of your life. Are you speaking breakthrough over your life? Are you saying “yes” and “Amen” to the promises of God? Are you praising Him in the midst of the most dire circumstances? Are you thanking Him when it seems like you have nothing to be thankful for?

If you want to change your life, change your speech. Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Prov 18:21). Where the tongue goes, the body follows.

Prayer:

Father, remind me to speak life over my body, my family, and my finances. I know that when I speak Your truth, my life will line up with Your word.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. – James 1:23-24

Faith is like a muscle: it must be exercised. If you don’t exercise your faith, it will atrophy. If, however, you flex your faith muscle and believe, your faith will grow big and strong!

James’ exhortation is a call to action for the contemporary church. We have become hearers of the word. We come to church on Sunday and hear testimonies about what is possible. We read our Bibles and hear testimonies about miraculous things God has done for His people. But when it comes to actually expecting God will do supernatural things in our daily lives, we can’t bring ourselves to believe. We have forgotten what kind of church we are supposed to be, as demonstrated in the Book of Acts. We have forgotten what kind of people God created us to be!

If you don’t exercise your faith, you will forget the goodness and power of God. If you don’t pray for supernatural things, you won’t see results that remind you that God can do anything! Put your faith into practice. Stand on God’s word, and pray for the impossible. You will not be disappointed.

Prayer:

Father, give me faith for the impossible. Help me to exercise my faith. I want to be a doer of the word, because just hearing is not enough!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. – Jas 1:5

Solomon wanted wisdom; so he asked for it. “Then God said to him: ‘Because you have asked this thing…behold, I have done according to your words…’” (1 Kings 3:11-12). God made Solomon the wisest man in the world (1 Kings 4:30). But Solomon had to ask.

Do you want to be wise? Ask! God will give to all – yes, you! – liberally and without reproach.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” – Matt 7:7-8

Prayer:

Father, give me the courage to ask for the things You want me to have. I know Scripture is an invitation to ask for the things of Heaven. I know when I ask according to Your will, it is done!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now the hand of the Lord had been upon me the evening before the man came who had escaped. And He had opened my mouth; so when he came to me in the morning, my mouth was opened, and I was no longer mute. – Ezek 33:22

A messenger ran to Ezekiel to deliver terrible news: Jerusalem had been captured! But Ezekiel wasn’t distressed. In fact, he wasn’t even upset. Why? Because he knew the news was coming. The hand of the Lord had been upon him the night before. God had visited him and told him everything that was about to happen. When the messenger arrived, Ezekiel knew exactly what to say: his “mouth was opened.” He didn’t have to gasp in shock and try to find the words, because God had already told him what to do!

This is what happens when we spend time with the Lord: nothing can surprise us! God will speak to us in advance when we give Him the chance. He will make us ready for whatever comes our way.

Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. – Amos 3:7

Prayer:

Father, thank You for speaking to me! Help me to make time to listen to You every day so I know what’s coming, and I’m never caught by surprise.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Therefore its height was exalted above all the trees of the field; its boughs were multiplied, and its branches became long because of the abundance of water, as it sent them out. – Ezek 31:5

The more water, the longer the branches. Water represents time in God’s presence: leaning on His Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance. The branches represent your reach: the number of people and places you can impact with the love of God in your lifetime. The more time you spend in God’s presence, the longer your reach!

Dig deep to reach out. Spend time with Him first, and you will be equipped to reach farther, and longer, than you ever thought you could!

Prayer:

Father, remind me to place a priority on time in Your presence. I want to dig deep, spend time with You, and then reach out!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

…who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. – Heb 11:33-34

Faith is a powerful weapon. Faith subdues kingdoms and defeats every enemy. Faith makes us righteous and separates us from our sins. Faith reaches up into Heaven, and pulls the promises of God down into our lives here on earth!

Faith makes us strong and valiant. Faith delivers us from the mouths of lions, and then makes us bold as lions to turn entire armies to flight!

Best of all, faith is a gift. You don’t have to earn it; you simply have to believe.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the gift of faith! Thank You that Jesus died on the Cross and rose again so I could follow in His footsteps. Make me bold and brazen in my faith, in Jesus’ name.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

The works of the Lord are great, studied by all who have pleasure in them. – Ps 111:2

We study the word of God because it gives us pleasure! To “study” is the Hebrew darash[1], which means to seek out – to inquire and require. Every time you open the word of God, you are inquiring of Him. You are asking Him, “Lord, what timeless truth can I apply to my life, here and now?” At the same time, you are also requiring of Him: demonstrating that you need His word more than you need the air you breathe, and refusing to make choices until you hold them up to the light of His truth.

Is cracking open your Bible your favorite part of the day? When you have a long day at work, do you unwind by reflecting on God’s word? Pleasure comes from studying God’s word. If a love for God’s word doesn’t naturally spring up out of you, ask Him to cultivate it in you! The Holy Spirit lives in you, and He will illuminate truth through God’s word like never before when you give Him the chance.

Prayer:

Father, I want to take pleasure in Your word. Give me abundant joy every single time I open my Bible, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. – Heb 11:1-2

Faith worked for the elders; so why wouldn’t it work for you? By faith, Abel offered a sacrifice that pleased God. By faith, Enoch bypassed death and was taken straight up into heaven. By faith, Noah built an ark before there was a drop of rain! By faith, Abraham had a son and became the father of many nations. By faith, Sarah – who was too old to conceive – became a mother!

Faith worked for them, and it will work for you. Receive the promises of God, by faith, in Jesus’ name!

Prayer:

Father, increase my faith! Give me the faith to believe in the impossible, and the courage to act on my faith, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus… – Heb 10:19

This verse is offensive, especially if you have good manners. We’re taught not even to walk into someone’s home with boldness; yet here Scripture tells us to boldly enter into the Holiest of Holies – the home of God Himself! How audacious! How uncouth! How could we ever have the right to walk into God’s very presence like we own the place?

Jesus purchased our access into God’s presence two thousand years ago on the Cross. You no longer have to earn the right to enter His presence; you just have to know Jesus. As a child of God, everything changes!

Prayer:

Father, thank You that I can enter boldly into Your presence! Give me the confidence to live life as a son (daughter), in Jesus’ name!
