Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off… – Mk 9:43

Few of us want to sin. Most of us simply don’t know how to stop. Instead of trying to fight sin, simply change your focus:

1) Change your environment. Sin is often the result of bad habits. We take a familiar turn that we know leads to a dead end. Instead of going to the same places and falling into the same patterns, switch it up. Go to church instead of going to that Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas; and see how your week turns around!

2) Change your friends. You become like the people you camp around. If you show me who you hang out with, I’ll show you whom you’re becoming. Are you surrounded by people who exhort and encourage you, and draw you closer to the Cross?

3) Keep your eyes on Jesus! Cursing the darkness is okay; but turning on the light is even better. The best way to forget about your sin is to let Jesus consume your focus.

Prayer:

Father, Your word says I am sanctified: holy and set apart for the Lord! Thank You that I am no longer a slave to sin; I am free to live a life of supernatural power and strength, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. – Prov 10:18

Do you have something to say? Don’t hide it! Speak directly with that person. Go straight to the source of the disagreement, and compassionately speak your mind:

“Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.” – Matt 18:15

Hiding is just as bad as lying, and speaking behind someone’s back is even worse. Go straight to that person and tell them what you have to say!

Prayer:

Father, give me the courage to speak my mind. Help me never to hide the words when I have something to say! Give me boldness to say what needs to be said in a way that births compassion, in Jesus’ name!

Day 57: Pray Again!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.” Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. – Mk 8:23-25

Many miracles happen immediately; but some take time. This is an instance where Jesus prayed twice for a man who was blind. He was partially healed after Jesus laid hands on him the first time (v 23). Then Jesus interviewed him: He “asked him if he saw anything” (v 23). The man replied that his vision wasn’t yet fully restored; so Jesus laid hands on him again! The man’s sight was healed, and he saw everyone clearly.

Don’t be scared to pray again. If you pray and partial healing happens: pray again! Even if you pray and nothing happens: pray again! Do not back away from the promises of God because they don’t happen right away. Contend for the things of God. Insist that healing takes place. Pray again; and watch as God exceeds your expectations.

Prayer:

Father, make me persistent in my prayers! Help me to leave nothing on the table. If Your word promises it, I am going to contend for it, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then He said to her, “For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.” – Mk 7:29

This mother was persistent. She came to Jesus, “…asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter” (v 26). But Jesus refused! He was there to bring the Gospel to the Jewish people, and this woman was a Gentile. He daughter – in desperate need of healing – was also a Gentile. In other words, she didn’t know Jesus; but He was willing to heal her all the same! The mother persisted, and her unsaved daughter was healed.

We must pray persistently for our family members who don’t know Jesus. We can ask God to bless them with a miracle, just as Jesus blessed this persistent woman’s daughter. Jesus demonstrated that miracles are not reserved for a certain people group; they are set aside for those who have faith!

God can work miracles in your family members’ lives whether they know Him or not. Believe Him. Pray persistently; and watch what He does!

Prayer:

Father, I pray for sings, wonders, and miracles for my unsaved family members. Fill me with persistent strength so I can keep praying until they get their breakthrough, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

…and the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.” – Lev 16:2

Under the Old Covenant, Aaron had to perfectly time his approach. He couldn’t come to God “at just any time.” He had to wait until God appeared above the mercy seat. If he came when he wasn’t called, he would die!

Thank God for our New Covenant of grace through Jesus Christ. The writer of Hebrews says we get to, “…come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb 4:16). We don’t have to time our approach, because God is always available! Jesus died for our sins; and that means we get to come to God whenever we want! Because of the Cross, we don’t have to worry if God will receive us and listen to our request; we know we will find grace to help whenever we are in need!

God wants to hear from you. Some days you won’t feel Him; but that doesn’t mean He’s not moving. Some days, you won’t see Him; but that doesn’t mean He’s not there. His presence is available: living in you, and all around you. All you have to do is come in!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for making Yourself available! Make me a lover of Your presence. Help me to enter into Your presence: unashamed and unafraid, knowing You will receive me with grace!

Day 54: The Importance of Rest

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves. – Mk 6:30-32

Jesus told the disciples to put a priority on rest. The disciples were praying: telling Jesus all things they had done and taught. They were serving: for there were many coming and going. Yet Jesus interrupted their prayer, and their service, to remind them to rest.

The disciples were being stretched thin: traveling to heal and to teach, and ministering to all the people who came to them. They had busy schedules full of service to God! But Jesus told them if they didn’t take time to minister to themselves, they wouldn’t have strength to minister to others.

If you aren’t full, you will have nothing to pour out. Give yourself time to rest and receive from the Lord. It is only from a place of rest that you can glorify God.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for rest! Remind me of the importance of rest: every single day of my life.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So they went out and preached that people should repent. And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them. – Mk 6:12-13

Preach first, and miracles will follow. This is the pattern we see all throughout Scripture: wherever the word of God is preached, signs and wonders follow. The disciples went out and preached first, and then demons fled. They preached first, and healing happened!

Jesus is the Word. Wherever He went, miracles happened. Once He delegated His power and authority to His disciples, all they had to do to guarantee a miracle was go into a new place and preach the Gospel!

Preach the word. Share the Gospel. Then pray with full faith that signs, miracles and wonders will follow!

Prayer:

Father, thank You that everywhere the word is preached, miracles happen! You are a miracle-working God. Help me to share the Gospel with full faith that You will confirm Your word with signs and wonders.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” – Mk 5:22-23

Jairus wasn’t a Christian; but he had confident faith in Jesus. He believed that if Jesus laid His hands on his daughter, she would be raised back to life. Because he believed, his daughter lived!

Faith activates the miraculous. Jairus didn’t ask Jesus if He could heal. He didn’t waste time wondering why God would allow is daughter to be sick. He simply sought out Jesus – God in the flesh – and invited Him into his life. The fruit of his confident faith was new life!

Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. – Mk 5:42

Prayer:

Father, fill me with supernatural faith in Jesus’ name! I believe You are the Healer. All I need for healing to happen in my life is to invite You. Lord, come into my life. Heal every sickness, mend every broken part of me, and baptize me with new life, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples. – Mk 4:34

Jesus spoke in parables: simple stories used to illustrate an important principle. Not everyone understood what He was saying; but some had the courage to ask.

Revelation comes through relationship. When Jesus was with the masses, He spoke in parables; but when He was with the disciples, He spoke plainly! When the disciples didn’t fully understand what Jesus was saying, they asked Him to explain in private. God tells us to, “…come boldly to the throne of grace” (Heb 4:16), knowing that He is always available!

Whatever it is you don’t understand: ask God. He will explain all things to you.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the open invitation to pursue You. Thank You that whenever I don’t understand something, all I have to do is ask!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” – Mk 4:8

Evangelism has a compounding effect. You are reading this because you received the Gospel seed someone else sowed on the good ground of your heart. You are in God’s Kingdom because someone invited you! Now the people around you need to receive an invitation. Telling one person about Jesus might not seem like a big deal; but if you tell ten people about Jesus, and they tell ten people, and then those ten people tell another ten people, Kingdom multiplication is in full effect!

Open your mouth and share the Good News. It’s hard to make a difference on your own; but together we can change the world!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Kingdom multiplication! Help me to see the big picture: to understand that every time I share the Gospel, Kingdom multiplication is taking place in Jesus’ name!
