Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward than he who flatters with the tongue. – Prov 28:23

Don’t you appreciate honest friends? A real friend is someone who will tell you how (s)he really feels. A real friend is someone who won’t hold back the truth. A real friend tells you when you’re out of line, in a spirit of love!

Sometimes we’re afraid to be honest with our friends because we’re worried the truth will hurt. But lies always hurt more then the truth. Always. What is hidden will be uncovered; and what is in the darkness will be brought into the light! And when your friend finds out the truth, do you know what his first question will be for you? Why didn’t you tell me?!

Don’t tell your friends what they want to hear; tell them what they need to hear to be the best person they can possibly be!

Prayer:

Father, help me to be honest with the friends You have given me. Surround me with people who are willing to be open and honest with me! Help me to use my tongue for good, and never for gain, in Jesus’ name.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

The entrance of Your words gives light… – Ps 119:130

The entrance – or introduction – of God’s word into any situation brings light. Light is the opposite of darkness. God’s word relieves darkness and depression. His word releases believers from oppression. His word brings the power to heal!

He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. – Ps 107:20

God’s written word guides and restores us. His spoken word encourages and revives us. Whatever you are going through, the answer is more of God’s word!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the power in Your word. Your word heals. Your word brings light. Your word guides me from where I am, to where You want me to be. Thank You for Your word, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. – Dan 5:14

The king of Babylon had heard of Daniel. He called Daniel because of his reputation: that the Spirit of God was in him, and that he possessed a level of “light…understanding and excellent wisdom” the rest of the world did not.

Daniel made God famous! People wanted to be around Daniel because of the things God did through him. Do you believe this can be your testimony too? What if the Holy Spirit moved so powerfully through your life that your boss always called you for the most demanding (but also most rewarding) projects? What if the wisdom of God came out of your mouth so often that your friends always wanted to seek your advice? What if every acquaintance you have – even though they haven’t met Jesus yet – wanted to be around you because they simply sensed something was different about you?

Life with Jesus should be so radical that other people notice. Daniel didn’t try to attract attention. He simply walked out God’s will for his life, and everyone stopped and stared. You have the same Spirit in you as Daniel had in him; so your life should bear the same fruit!

Prayer:

Father, I want to make You famous. I want to put Your power, wisdom, and glory on display – everywhere I go, and for everyone I meet. Make me a walking representation of Your goodness and Your glory, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But at last Daniel came before me (…in him is the Spirit of the Holy God), and I told the dream before him … – Dan 4:8

Daniel was just a man. He had no special training in dream interpretation; but he had the Holy Spirit. Guess what? You have the Holy Spirit too! God put His Spirit “…in your heart as a guarantee” (2 Cor 1:22). That means you can interpret dreams just like Daniel.

Daniel didn’t need a special course in dream interpretation. He sought the Lord (Dan 2:18), and “…then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So Daniel blessed the God of heaven” (Dan 2:19)! Daniel simply asked God what the dream meant, and God revealed the interpretation!

Dream interpretation is simple. If you have a dream, ask God what it means. It may mean nothing; or it may mean something. Either way, God will make it plain.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for helping me to interpret dreams! Thank You that I never have to wonder what dreams mean; I just have to ask! Give me the boldness and the courage to ask, in Jesus’ name.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. – 1 Peter 4:10

I believe in spiritual gifts. I believe all believers should earnestly desire to walk in the gifts outlined in 1 Cor 12: the word of wisdom (v 8), the word of knowledge (v 8), the gift of faith (v 9), gifts of healings (v 9), miracles (v 10), prophecy (v 10), discerning of spirits (v 10), different kinds of tongues (v 10), and the interpretation of tongues (v 10). I echo the desire Paul expressed in 1 Cor 14 that the whole church would “desire spiritual gifts,” especially prophecy (v 1).

But we have to know what spiritual gifts are for. Said a different way, we have to know whom spiritual gifts are for. Spiritual gifts are not just for you; they are to share with others. 1 Peter 4:10 says God gives us gifts so that we might, “…minister…to one another, as good stewards.” Spiritual gifts are not badges of honor we wear in ministry settings to prove we have a calling on our life. They are not benchmarks to show other people how committed we are to God. They are gifts; and God trusts us with them so that we might show His goodness to others.

What are you doing with the gifts He has given you? Are you holding on to them, and only exercising them for yourself? Or are you letting them flow freely through your hands, and blessing every single person you meet?

Prayer:

Father, help me to be wholly unselfish with Your spiritual gifts! Help me to take my eyes off myself, and start praying for other people. I want to be an effective minister – and a good steward – of everything You have given me, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.” – Dan 1:12

Just because it is good for others, doesn’t mean it is good for you. The king of Babylon selected Daniel and his friends for training. He “…appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank” (Dan 1:5). But Daniel and his friends rejected the delicacies. When the rest of the world would have loved to say yes, they had the courage to say no.

God’s provision is perfect. He knows exactly what you need. Living for God means being set apart: passing on things other people feel like they need, and accepting only what God has for you. Daniel and his friends rejected the delicacies and wine of the king; and instead insisted on only vegetables and water. They rejected what others said they needed, and accepted only what God had for them.

God will supply “all your need” (Phil 4:19). If we want abundant joy, we must learn to desire exactly what He has for us: nothing more, and nothing less.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your perfect provision. I receive everything You have for me: nothing more, and nothing less, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. – Prov 28:13

Hiding our sins doesn’t help. When we confess our sins to God – when we get honest with Him about what we’re struggling with and ask for help – God’s mercy is activated over our lives.

You can’t hide anything from God. He knows everything anyway, and He loves you just the same. Confess your sins, and know that He already forgives you by the blood of Jesus!

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 Jn 1:9

Prayer:

Father, I don’t want to hide anything from You. You see me, and You know me; and You love me more than I could ever imagine!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it. – Ps 119:33-35

We simply cannot do what God has called us to do without asking for His help. He must teach us the way of His statutes (v 33). He must give us understanding (v 34). We cannot make ourselves walk in the path He has for us (v 35); but He can enable us live out our destiny.

Don’t try to live out God’s best for your life alone. The Holy Spirit will guide you every step of the way. And at the end of your life, you will look back and say, thank You, Lord, for everything.

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. – Jn 16:13

Prayer:

Father, thank You for helping me to do the impossible! I am so grateful I don’t have to do Your work alone. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, who always strengthens me in Jesus’ name.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

I will run the course of Your commandments, for You shall enlarge my heart. – Ps 119:32

If you want to do what God has called you to do, you’re going to need a bigger heart.

God gave Saul a new heart (1 Sam 10:9). David asked that God would create in him a pure heart (Ps 51:10). Solomon asked God for a discerning heart and received it (1 Kings 3:9). Why should your life be any different? After all, God promised through Ezekiel that He would give us new hearts and put a new spirit within us (Ezek 36:26).

God is a heart specialist. Do you want to love people better, and love God more than ever before? Ask Him to enlarge your heart so you can live out your destiny.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for changing my heart. I know effective service comes after heart change. Abundant joy comes after heart change! I look forward to my transplant, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east. His voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shone with His glory…and I fell on my face. – Ezek 43:2-3

Ezekiel had an encounter with God, and he was forever changed. Ezekiel experienced the presence of God, and he was marked for life! A man or woman with an experience is never at the mercy of a man or woman with an opinion.

God’s presence changes you. When was the last time you came face to face with God’s glory? When was the last time His voice overpowered you with “the sound of many waters?” If you want to be changed, you need an encounter!

Prayer:

Father, make me hungry for an encounter with You! Show me Your glory. You have permission to change me forever: to mark me for life with a passion that cannot be contained!
