Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Many are my persecutors and my enemies, yet I do not turn from Your testimonies. – Ps 119:157

Do you have persecutors and enemies? Do you have people making your life difficult? Are people around you – even your friends and family – rooting against you, instead of for you?

Keep your eyes on God’s word. The Psalmist declared to God that his enemies were many; yet he refused to turn from God’s testimonies, even for one moment. He would not allow any level of opposition to force him to take his eyes off God’s word.

Don’t get distracted. The enemy wants you to take your eyes off the promise. But keep your focus! What you face, you embrace. Keep your vision locked on the promise of God, and He will get you there in due time.

Prayer:

Father, give me focus. Give me vision! Free me from all distractions, in Jesus’ name. I know that as I keep my eyes fixed on you, my enemies will fade away.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. – 2 Peter 3:8

How many times have you questioned God’s faithfulness because something took longer than you expected? How many times have your doubted the promise because it didn’t arrive as soon as you would have liked?

God doesn’t work according to your timeline; He works according to His! When God promised Abraham a son, He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son” (Gen 18:10). So do you want to know when your promise will come to pass? According to the time of life!

We live in time; but God lives outside of time. We see things one day after another in a linear fashion; but God can see the entire trajectory of our lives all at once and insert His promise – the answer to your prayer – at any moment He deems fit.

Don’t rush God! God has permission to take His time. With God, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. One thing I know for sure: in the end, it will be worth the wait.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your perfect timing. I submit to Your timing; and I submit to Your will! I trust You, in Jesus’ name.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then King Belshazzar was greatly troubled, his countenance was changed, and his lords were astonished. – Dan 5:9

The king was “greatly troubled.” He didn’t know what to do. He was panicked, and full of anxiety, because he wasn’t sure what God was trying to say!

But Daniel had the answer. He had the answer to the king’s anxiety. He had a solution to the king’s every question: a response to the king’s every need! What was it that Daniel had, that everyone else needed? The Holy Spirit.

There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the Spirit of the Holy God. – Dan 5:11

You are just like Daniel. You are filled with the Holy Spirit! When the people around you are worried and perplexed, you have the Answer they need! Introduce them to Jesus. Share the Gospel! Pray with the power of God’s Holy Spirit; and God will do the rest.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for filling me with Your Holy Spirit. You are the Answer to my every need. When people around me need peace, send me! I am filled with Your Holy Spirit, who brings peace everywhere He goes.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you. I thought it good to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me. – Dan 4:1-2

What has God done for you? What miracles has He worked in your life?

Nebuchadnezzar was a foreign king. He didn’t even know God! He wasn’t a son or daughter of God like you and I! Yet here he is, writing a letter to his entire kingdom with the one singular purpose: to declare everything God had done on his behalf.

If this non-believing king had the heart to declare God’s goodness, how much easier should it be for you and me? Let’s be bold today, and declare what God has done for us for all the world to hear!

Prayer:

Father, make me bold in declaring Your goodness. I want to tell the world just how good You are, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets… – Dan 2:28

Daniel was brought before the most powerful ruler in the world to interpret a dream. When Daniel arrived, he refused to make this about him. He refused an easy opportunity for self-promotion, in front of the most powerful man in the world! Instead, he made it all about God. He used his audience with the king to declare God’s goodness and glory: to advance Heaven’s agenda, instead of his own.

Daniel refused to promote himself; and in return, God insisted on promoting him:

Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts; and he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon. – Dan 2:48

When God brings you before rulers and kings (Matt 10:18), will you be ready to give Him all the glory? Will you be prepared to seek His agenda, instead of your own?

Prayer:

Father, I am on this earth to make You famous. Help me to refuse excellent opportunities for self-promotion; and to instead tell people how good You are!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” – 1 Pet 3:12

Are you righteous? If you believe in Jesus you are!

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. – 2 Cor 5:21

You are the righteousness of God in Christ. That means 1) God’s eyes are upon you, and 2) His ears are open to your prayers!

You have God’s attention in every way. He is watching: He sees when you need help, and He moves Heaven to meet your needs. He is listening! He hears what you say, and He acts in response to your prayers!

The death of Jesus made impossible favor, possible. Thanks be to God!

Prayer:

Father, thank You! Thank You for seeing me. Thank You for hearing me! Thank You for protecting me, in Jesus’ name.

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
…who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness–by whose stripes you were healed. – 1 Pet 2:24

Healing and salvation happened on the same day. When Jesus died on the Cross, He “bore our sins in His own body.” Our sin was crucified in His flesh!

In the same way, He bore our sickness in His own body. By His stripes, you were healed! He took on the pain and the deleterious effects of every disease you could ever encounter; and He did it so we could find our healing in Him.

Notice that Scripture says, “by [His] stripes you were healed.” It doesn’t say, you will be healed. It doesn’t say, you might be healed. It says, you were healed. Jesus already died for your sin; and He already died for your sickness. If you are dead to sin (Rom 6:2), that means you are dead to sickness and disease too! The things to which you are dead can no longer have a hold on you.

You trust Jesus for salvation. Are you ready to trust in Him for healing too?

Prayer:

Father, thank You that I was healed by the stripes of Your Son Jesus Christ! I am dead to sin, and I am dead to sickness and disease. I trust You for perfect healing, in Jesus’ name!

Day 327: Don’t Go Out the Same!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“But when the people of the land come before the Lord on the appointed feast days, whoever enters by way of the north gate to worship shall go out by way of the south gate; and whoever enters by way of the south gate shall go out by way of the north gate. He shall not return by way of the gate through which he came, but shall go out through the opposite gate.” – Ezek 46:9

When you come to worship, you should never go out the way you came in! Worship should change you! Things that are not of God should be broken off your life; and things that are of God should be activated in your life.

If you come to church and go home the same, you’re missing something. If church doesn’t change you, you might as well stay home! But if you come to be forever changed, God will honor that bold prayer.

Prayer:

Father, change me in worship. I come to Your house to seek Your face. I pray I would never leave the same, in Jesus’ name!

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And you have not kept charge of My holy things, but you have set others to keep charge of My sanctuary for you.” – Ezek 44:8

There are certain tasks God has given you that are not within your power to delegate. The Israelites were supposed to keep God’s sanctuary in order. Instead, they outsourced the task. They missed out on something God wanted them to have, because they left the most important work to someone else!

What has God given you to do as holy, that you have passed on to someone else? Intimacy is the most important factor in your relationship with God; but no one else can spend time in God’s presence for you! Prayer will absolutely change your life from top to bottom; but how often do we settle to ask others to pray for us, and fail to pray for ourselves? God’s word must be digested and meditated upon; but how many times have we expected pastors to dig into the word for us?

You can’t outsource faith. If you want to be impacted by God’s presence, you have to spend time in His glory!

Prayer:

Father, I can’t outsource faith! Help me to bring the most important things back in-house. I will dig into the word for myself. I will pray on my own! I will personally spend time in Your presence. I will love You with my whole heart, like never before, in Jesus’ name!

Day 325: The Key to Waiting Well

Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. – Jas 5:7-8

Scripture tells us to be patient. Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength (Is 40:31)! We do well to wait on Jesus. Everything He has promised will come to pass in due time.

But waiting is hard! So what should we do while we wait? Don’t focus on the fruit; focus on the root. Don’t focus on the outcome; work on your heart! To “establish” your heart (v 8) means to “make stable, fix, strengthen, and make firm.”[1] Waiting for God’s promise means you have a unique opportunity to focus inward instead of outward: to ask the Holy Spirit to remove every obstacle to intimacy with God, and to invite Jesus to take the throne of your life like never before!

Waiting doesn’t have to be hard. Use the time wisely and work on your heart. Then, when the promise comes, you’ll be ready!

Prayer:

Father, help me to wait well! Release me from all anger and frustration. While I wait, I ask that You would heal my heart, in Jesus’ name!
