Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now the Lord said to Joshua: “Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.” – Josh 8:1

Joshua had already tried to take Ai once. He sent “about three thousand men” to take the city, but they were defeated (Josh 7:4). But Joshua wasn’t discouraged. He wouldn’t let a minor setback keep him from a major victory!

Have you experienced a setback? Attack again. Joshua learned an important lesson: even if you fail, try again. Israel had been defeated once; but they would not be defeated again. The promise of God survives every setback!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for second chances. I pray Your Holy Spirit would encourage me to try again in every area of my life where it seems like I’ve failed. I know there is no such thing as failure in Your presence, in Jesus’ name!
