Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God. – Josh 14:8

Caleb went with eleven other men to spy out the Promised Land. All twelve came back; but only two – Joshua and Caleb – fully trusted God. The rest buckled with fear; but Caleb and Joshua encouraged God’s people to go up and take the land!

Caleb was not swayed by the opinions of others. He did not waver at the promise of God! He did not back down from battle because others were afraid. He “wholly followed the Lord…God;” and he was rewarded for his faithfulness.

While all his peers passed away, Caleb stayed alive. While all the other soldiers died in the wilderness, Caleb got stronger than ever (see v 11). When everyone else was dead and buried, Caleb’s trust in God kept him alive. He not only got to see the promise; he got to own it.

Keep trusting God. If God has given you the land, He will give you the strength to take it. If God says you can do it, it can be done!

Prayer:

Father, make me like Caleb! Help me to believe when everyone else doubts. Help me to move forward while everyone else runs away! I will do everything You have called me to do: nothing more, and nothing less, in Jesus’ name!
