Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” – Lk 18:22

Jesus’ message to all of us is not that we should sell all our possessions and donate the proceeds to the poor. His prompting to the rich, young ruler was the promise that He will demand the removal of anything that comes between us and God. Jesus will put His finger on the one thing that we value over our relationship with God, and ask for it.

For most of us, it’s money. For many, it’s work. For some, it’s family. Whatever it is, it has to go. If we ever love anything more than God, our priorities need to be supernaturally rearranged!

Prayer:

Father, restore divine order in my life, in Jesus’ name. I want to love You above everything – and everyone – else. Help me to give You priority.
