Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

“I have given you a land for which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you dwell in them; you eat of the vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.”        – Josh 24:13

To “inherit” means, “To receive as an heir at the death of the previous holder” (source: Google dictionary). An inheritance is simply received; you cannot earn it. Everything God gives us in this life is an inheritance. By living a sinless life, Jesus earned a reward we could never deserve. Then, He chose death so that we could freely receive His inheritance!

I am all for hard work. I am not, however, in support of laboring in vain. When we say no to God, we will work our entire lives and have nothing to show for it. But when we say yes to Him, He will give the labor of others into our hand!

“… the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.” – Prov 13:22

Prayer:

Father, thank You for my divine inheritance! I know that Jesus finished His work on the Cross, and that means there is nothing left for me to do! Help me to receive Your love: by grace, through faith in Jesus’ name!
