Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the children of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned! Do to us whatever seems best to You; only deliver us this day, we pray.” So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord. And His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel. – Judges 10:15-16

Repentance changes everything. The children of Israel constantly turned away from following God. God delivered them from Egypt; yet they turned around and worshiped idols. God delivered them from the Midianites; yet they responded by worshipping other gods.

But one day, they made a decision: it’s time to change. They repented, and God responded. Repentance is the Greek metanoeo (Strong’s #3340). Repentance simply means to change your mind: to recognize that your past actions haven’t gotten you where you want to be, and to ask God to guide you instead of insisting on finding your own way.

Even in the midst of their disobedience, God never stopped loving His people. As soon as they repented, God responded. They “put away” their idols, and made a commitment to follow God with their whole hearts; and He immediately delivered them from their distress.

What are you going through? Repent. Change your mind. Refuse to do things your way, and instead make a commitment to do things His way. Yahweh is better than your way, 100% of the time!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the power in repentance! I want to align my heart to follow You. I want to worship You with my whole life, in Jesus’ name! I pray that nothing – no idol, no mindset, no circumstance – would stand in the way of constant surrender to Your will.
