Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” – Jn 1:29

Under the Old Covenant, God required sacrifice. God’s people had to sacrifice lambs, goats, bulls, and even birds. They would use the blood of animals to atone for (i.e. cover) their sin.

But under the New Covenant, Jesus is our Sacrifice. He is the Lamb of God. He poured out His blood – He gave up His life – to atone for our sins! And whereas Old Covenant sacrifices were temporary, and covered sins for a time, the blood of Jesus as our New Covenant sacrifice is permanent! He gave up His life once for the sins of all!

No matter who you are, what you’ve done, or where you’ve been: the blood of Jesus washes you white as snow. Trust in Him, and you are forgiven!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the blood of Jesus Christ. Thank You that His blood washes away all my sins: past, present, and future. Help me to trust that when Jesus died on the Cross, my sin died with Him!
