Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then the children of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and asked counsel of the Lord, saying, “Shall I again draw near for battle against…Benjamin?” – Judges 20:23

The Israelites suffered defeat on day one of the battle. But they didn’t shy away from the fight, or turn away from God. They sought Him, and He answered. Keep fighting, God said.

Then they suffered defeat again on day two! Why couldn’t they win? They were clearly fighting against wicked people who were doing wicked things; a victory for Israel would mean glory for God. They sought God again, and He answered. Keep fighting, God said.

On the third day, God gave the Israelites a new battle plan. They ambushed their enemies; and just when their enemies thought they were winning, God struck them down!

Victory comes on the third day. When Jesus died on the Cross, Satan thought he was winning. But just when he thought the fight was over and death had won, Jesus rose from the grave. God defeated death, once and for all, as a promise that all our enemies will fall when we make the decision to just keep fighting.

Are you in the middle of a battle that’s lasting longer than you ever thought it could? Keep fighting! Seek God. He will give you a battle plan, and bring you into victory over your enemies. You are promised inevitable victory because of the Cross.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that victory is inevitable. Even when I am in the fight of my life, I know that Jesus died to give me life. I will stand on Your promises, in His name!
