Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel had gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines. – 1 Sam 7:7

All the people of Israel had repented and turned their hearts to God. As they gathered together to worship God at a city called Mizpah, Israel’s enemies came up to start a war.

The enemy tries to attack when God’s people are in worship. Satan knows that if he can disrupt your worship, he can make you afraid. That is why the first thing he goes after when you hit a rough patch is your intimacy with God. Satan will do everything he can do convince you that God doesn’t love you, and doesn’t want to hear from you. But when you continue to worship no matter what your enemies are up to, God will deliver you!

Samuel cried out to God, even as the enemy approached. The people of Israel continued to worship, and God defeated their enemies (v 10). Protect your worship. Praise God in advance, knowing that your victory is secure. Keep your eyes on the Cross, and He will deliver you!

Prayer:

Father, I ask that You would protect my ability to worship. Help me to always lean on You, and worship You with every part of me. I know that when I worship You, my victory is secure!
