Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. – Jn 6:3

When Moses went up on the mountain, he went alone. The people could not come with him:

Then the Lord said to him, “Away! Get down and then come up, you and Aaron with you. But do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the Lord, lest He break out against them.” – Ex 19:24

This was the Old Covenant paradigm. If God’s people wanted to hear God, they had to ask Moses what He was saying!

But with Jesus, things are different:

And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. – Jn 6:3

Jesus went up on the mountain to minister the word of God. Yet He did not go alone, leaving the people below. He “sat with His disciples.” He brought them with Him!

This is the New Covenant paradigm. You don’t need to rely on someone else to go “up on the mountain” for you. You don’t need someone else to hear God’s voice, and translate His word, on your behalf! When you are “hidden with Christ in God” (Col 3:3), God will speak to you directly!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for bringing me up on the mountain with Jesus. Thank You that I get to sit at His feet and hear Your word! You are incredible; and I am forever grateful, in Jesus’ name!
