Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“And when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites came against you, you said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ when the Lord your God was your king.” – 1 Sam 12:12

Israel was afraid of the Ammonites. They saw the Ammonites – their enemy – had a king, so they asked God for a king too! In other words, instead of asking God what would work for them, God’s people copied the strategy of their enemy.

You don’t have to copy the enemy’s strategy. God has more in store for you! He will give you divine strategy. He will speak to you about what He wants for your life. Why would you copy the strategy of an earthly enemy, when you have access to the plans and purposes of a Heavenly God?

Is someone at work talking bad about you? Don’t copy their strategy. Is a family member looking to pull you into drama? Don’t copy their strategy! Does a nosy neighbor have you at your wit’s end? Don’t copy their strategy. When you stoop to the enemy’s level, he has a shot; but when you choose Heaven’s path for your life, the enemy doesn’t stand a chance.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for divine strategy. Thank You that I don’t have to use the same silly, time- and energy-consuming devices as Satan. You have amazing plans for me; and I thank You for them, in Jesus’ name!
