Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. – Jn 7:37-39

Jesus died on the Cross so we could receive His Spirit! When Jesus died on the Cross, He paid the price for our sin. When we believe in Him, our sin is forgiven; and when we are forgiven and made clean, we become worthy vessels for God’s Holy Spirit!

Here are the benefits of being filled with God’s Holy Spirit:

1)   Eternal wisdom: Our lives are finite; but God’s vantage point is eternal. When we see with His eyes, we can make decisions with His heart.

2)   Supernatural strength: Rivers of living water will flow out of you! Why rely on your own strength, when you can rely on God’s?

3)   Heavenly prayer: When you are filled with God’s Holy Spirit, He prays through you. You don’t have to wonder what to pray; just let God do all the work!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for filling me with Your Holy Spirit! Help me never to forget the benefits of salvation. I don’t have to go through life alone, because You are with me – and Your Holy Spirit fills me!
