Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” – Jn 8:11

Religious leaders brought to Jesus “a woman caught in adultery” (Jn 8:3). They wanted Him to condemn her; but He refused. Instead, He gave them a simple invitation: “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first” (v 7).

Jesus didn’t condemn her; but He also didn’t condone her lifestyle. He immediately forgave her; but then He exhorted her to live free from sin. Loving someone doesn’t automatically mean you support their lifestyle; in fact, you have to love sinners if you hope to see change!

What if the church grabbed hold of this model? What if we stopped pointing fingers, and started extending hands?

It is forgiveness – not condemnation – that empowers us to live free from sin!

Prayer:

Father, keep me from condemning others. I am a sinner; but You saved me! In response, You have called me to preach the Gospel of grace to people who need Your love the most. Make me a fearless forgiver, in Jesus’ name.
