CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and went and said to Jonathan, ‘What have I done? What is my iniquity, and what is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?’” (1 Sam 20:1). Just because somebody doesn’t like you doesn’t mean it’s your fault. David did all the right things. Whenever Saul asked him to jump, he asked how high. Whenever Saul sent him into battle, he came back with the blood of all Saul’s enemies on his hands. So what did David do to make Saul hate him? Nothing. Nothing at all. Saul was afflicted with an evil spirit; in other words, the enemy was at work in his life, turning his heart against David. Sometimes, even if you do all the right things, people won’t like you because the enemy’s goal is to turn them against you. Don’t sweat it. Pursue the path and purpose God has for your life!

Prayer:

Father, help me to pursue Your vision for my life no matter who thinks what!
