Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house. – Jn 11:20

Mary’s faith had gone cold due to circumstance. Mary had been on fire for the Lord! This was the same Mary who was famous for pouring out fragrant oil on Jesus’ feet (v 2). This was the same Mary who washed Jesus’ feet with her hair! Yet after Lazarus died, she would not even rise to meet Jesus.

Maybe you feel like Mary: you used to be on fire for the Lord, but life threw you some unexpected curveballs, and now it’s hard to believe for anything at all. Don’t give up! Mary’s faith had gone cold; but Jesus was not done coming through for her. In fact, He was getting ready to do His best work yet; and He will do the same for you!

Prayer:

Father, I know You can do anything! Give me fresh faith to believe for the miraculous in my life, in Jesus’ name!
