Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. – 2 Sam 12:13

David messed up! But he immediately repented. As he admitted his fault, God put away his sin.

God’s continued favor on David’s life was perfectly dependent on David’s initial response of repentance. He took responsibility for his actions, and accepted the consequences of his wrongdoing. He didn’t try and convince Nathan that what he had done wasn’t wrong. He didn’t try to rationalize, and talk his way out of blame. He admitted his faults, and fell at the feet of God for forgiveness.

We will all mess up. It is only by openly admitting and confessing our faults that we grow and change!

Prayer:

Father, help me to openly admit my faults! I know as soon as I confess my shortcomings, You are faithful to forgive them. Help me to be honest and open with You, in Jesus’ name!
