Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

And King David longed to go to Absalom. – 2 Sam 13:39

David did not hate Absalom; he mourned his absence every day. Absalom had killed his brother – David’s son. Yet there was no action that could separate Absalom from the love of his father. From the day he left, until the day he returned, David mourned Absalom’s absence.

Absalom fled from Israel because he thought his father would punish him for his actions. Sometimes we fall into the trap of thinking the same of God. If we act out of anger, and do something we shouldn’t, we assume God wants nothing to do with us! We can’t fathom that He loves us unconditionally when we call on the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.

God’s response when we flee His Kingdom, no matter what we have done, is the same: He longs to see us! Return to Him, knowing that you will be met with grace and forgiveness.

And when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king. Then the king kissed Absalom. – 2 Sam 14:33

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your love and kindness. Thank You for Your grace! You love me more than I could ever deserve to be loved. I am forever grateful to have a home in Your presence.
