CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid…” (Jn 19:8). Pilate’s wife had warned him not to condemn Jesus to death, but Pilate did not heed her warning. When Pilate found out that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, he became afraid. What if Jesus really was the Christ (Anointed One), and Pilate would be responsible for putting Him to death? By the time he had this realization, however, it was already too late. Jesus had already been scourged, and was ready to be crucified. The message for us is this: do not pass the point of no return. Do not get to the end of your life, and then wonder ‘what if.’ What if Jesus Christ really is the Son of God? What if salvation in Him really is the only way to heaven? By then, it may be too late. The Bible confirms all these things for us. Make a decision to rely on Jesus Christ, the Son of God, for salvation today.

Prayer:

Father, Your word says that if I confess the Lord Jesus Christ with my mouth, and believe in my heart that He was raised from the dead, I will be saved! I declare faith in Jesus Christ today! I am washed clean of my sins by the blood of Jesus Christ. From this day forward, You see me as You see Your Only Son: sinless, spotless, and washed white as snow. Thank You Lord!
