Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel. – 2 Sam 16:22

David had been warned. In 2 Sam 12:11, Nathan warned David that because of his secret sin with Bathsheba, he would be punished openly. As Absalom went in to David’s wives, David’s punishment was now on display for all of Israel to see.

David secret sin had been dealt with openly. Whatever we try and keep in the darkness will be brought to light. But the formula also works in reverse: when we do good in secret, we will be rewarded openly (Matt 6:4)! Whatever we do behind closed doors – whether good or bad – will become our public reward.

Nothing is hidden from God. That doesn’t mean we have to be perfect; He simply asks that we don’t pretend He doesn’t see! Honor God at all times: not only in public, but also in the privacy of your own home. When we honor Him, He will honor us!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for honoring us as Your children. Help me to always speak of Your goodness and mercy, no matter what I am feeling. I will praise and honor You at all times!
