Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. – John 19:30

Jesus gave up His Spirit so that you could have His Spirit. How can a Man give His spirit as a gift unless He dies? This is why Jesus’ death was necessary: yes, to give His body as our substitute, but also to give us His Spirit!

Before He died, Jesus told His disciples they would be better off once He left:

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. – Jn. 16:7

Jesus’ death on the Cross means that His Spirit lives in you! The same Spirit who raised Him from the dead (Rom. 8:11). The same Spirit who empowered Jesus to perform so many miracles that, “…if they were written one by one…even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written” (Jn. 21:25)!

You have the Spirit of Christ (Rom. 8:9). What else could you ever need?

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for giving me Your Spirit! Holy Spirit, I ask that You come and invade my life. Take over my thought process. Tell me where to go, what to do, and what to say! I am Yours; and You are mine, in Jesus’ name!
