Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. – Acts 5:5

Ananias and Sapphira died because they lied to God. They told Him one thing, but did another. In this story, we see a worthwhile principle: you can lie to men, but you cannot lie to God.

You can’t lie to God! So why do we try to pretend in His presence? God already knows. He knows exactly who you are. He knows exactly what you’ve done! And do you know what? He loves you all the same.

The Cross of Jesus Christ means you don’t have to pretend you’re someone you’re not anymore! God sees you, and He loves you. Jesus has separated you from your sin, “…as far as the east is from the west” (Ps 103:12)! Be who you are; and trust that God will love you – imperfections and all – in Jesus’ name!

Prayer:

Father, I believe in Jesus. That means I no longer have to fear. You see me. You know me. And You love me. I am so grateful!
