Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” – Acts 8:29

God will perfectly position you to preach the Gospel. Philip listened as an angel told him where to go, and whom to seek (v 26). Philip was to travel to Gaza and await further instructions. When Philip arrived, the Holy Spirit spoke: “Go near and overtake this chariot.”

The man in the chariot was reading the perfect passage – Isaiah prophesying about the coming of Jesus Christ – at exactly the right time! All Philip had to do was 1) “open his mouth” (v 35) and 2) talk about Jesus. The words of God came running out. The man in the chariot was baptized and confessed his faith in Jesus Christ:

Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” – Acts 8:37

This is Spirit-led evangelism! God will set the stage. All you have to do is open your mouth!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for putting me in the right place at the right time! Help me to listen to Your divine promptings. Give me the courage to open my mouth and talk about Jesus! I know that as I do, people will give their lives to Him.
