Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.” – 1 Kings 11:11

Under the Old Covenant, God’s promises were conditional. If God’s people obeyed His word, then He would bless them. Solomon lost the kingdom of Israel because he failed to keep God’s covenant and statutes. God’s promises were conditioned on obedience: if you kept His word and walked in His ways, you would prosper; but if you failed to keep His commands, destiny would slip through your fingers.

But under the New Covenant, God’s promises are no longer conditional; because Jesus has already perfectly fulfilled every condition! You and I can never lose the Kingdom Jesus died for us to have. Our position depends on His perfection; and He lived a perfect, sinless life, before dying for our sins.

Aren’t you glad you don’t have to be perfect to inherit the promises of God? Rest in God’s word, knowing that Jesus perfectly fulfilled every requirement for you to walk out God’s destiny for you!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your perfect Son Jesus Christ! You knew I would never be able to live a perfect life; so You sent Jesus to live a sinless life for me. I am forever grateful, in Jesus’ name.
