Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” – Acts 10:15

As Peter was praying, he “fell into a trance” (v 10). The Lord spoke to him and told him never to call something common when God had made it clean. Peter wondered what it meant; but he soon found out he would travel to Cornelius’ household to share the Gospel with gentiles (non-Jewish recipients) for the first time.

These instructions have implications for your life, too. God has called you clean: “For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified” (Heb. 10:14). So if God calls you clean, you should never call yourself dirty. If He says you were worth the blood of His only Son Jesus, you should never call yourself unworthy! God has separated you for a life of service to Him, and you should never settle for anything less than a life full of God’s miraculous, abundant love!

These instructions also have implications for the way you treat others. Every woman is God’s daughter; and every man His son. Men: do you love and respect the women in your life as daughters of the King, knowing that He is jealous for them? Women: do you honor and uphold the men in your life as sons of the Most High, knowing that God seeks to honor them?

If God has cleansed it, you don’t get to call it common anymore. Accept your divine destiny, and believe in other people to walk out theirs!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for calling me clean! I believe that I am holy and righteous because I am “hidden” in Your Son Jesus (Col. 3:3). Help me never to despise what You have chosen, and help me never to reject whom You have accepted, in Jesus’ name!
